REVIEW-

With only one game remaining, after yet another twist in the Premier League title race, four teams still have a realistic chance of being crowned champions. Newcastle's 2-0 victory over previous leaders Birmingham Albion has put the Geordies in pole position at the top of the table with a one point cushion over the other three challengers. Manchester could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke United while last season's runners-up, Thames Valley, had a comfortable 2-0 win against Norwich United. We'll take a closer look at all four title chasers shortly. The relegation battle is also very tight. Norwich United are one place above the relegation zone, two points clear of the bottom three clubs. Leeds Rovers continued their remarkable recovery with a 1-0 win over Liverpool United to move off the bottom on goal difference, level on points with Huddersfield United and Wolverhampton.

In League 1, following a 3-2 win at Sheffield CityBolton Town are on the verge of a second consecutive promotion and a first-time-ever place in the Premier League. With their final league fixture at home to relegated bottom club, Doncaster United, who would bet against them? Blackpool United are level on points and goal difference with Town at the top but have scored more goals, therefore retaining topspot despite a 1-0 defeat at Hyde Park Rangers. Coventry United slip to third place, two points off the top two, after a 2-0 reverse at Edmonton.

In League 2 Bristol Wanderers won the crucial fixture against Nottingham City, replacing City in the second automatic promotion place.

Wrexham Town have clinched promotion from League 3 following a 1-1 draw with Carlisle. Bottom-club Reading Rovers lost 2-0 at home to fellow strugglers Bradford Albion and will now have to overcome a two-point deficit and an inferior goal difference in the final game to avoid relegation. Luton United are the only side within reach.

Newcastle are on the verge of only their second ever League Championship Trophy 15 seasons after their one and only League title. A win in their final league game at Huddersfield United will see them confirmed as champions. Anything less is unlikely to be enough with three other teams snapping at their heels just one point behind in the table. It won't be easy as opponents Huddersfield must win to stand any chance of avoiding relegation. The Geordies have already lifted the League Cup and have reached the F.F.A. Cup Final so the treble is still on for manager Ron Geddis in only his second season in charge after a massive 14 years at the helm of Hull Rovers.

Manchester are the reigning champions and have won four of the last six Premier League titles, 10 in total. Long-serving manager Mervyn Walsh has been in charge for the last eight seasons. Like Newcastle, Manchester's final game is away at a team in the midst of a relegation battle in Norwich United. A superior goal difference gives Manchester the edge over the other challengers but they still need to rely on Newcastle dropping points.

Thames Valley follow on from last season's excellent runners-up finish in Liam McCarthy's first season as manager. Valley have won the title on four previous occasions but the last one was way back in Season 14. They have the toughest last fixture, a visit to Liverpool United.

Birmingham Albion have two League titles to their name, the most recent 18 seasons's ago. Manager Mick Lawrenson is in his sixth season in charge at the club who have a home game against Nottingham United to end their league campaign before they take on Newcastle in the F.F.A. Cup Final.
