CUP FINAL DAY REVIEW
Birmingham Albion were always in control against relegated Newcastle in the F.F.A. Cup Final. Superb work by Andy Young down the left and a perfect cross enabled Greg Ferdinand to score with a thumping header from 12 yards out to give Albion a 39th minute lead. In the 87th minute Alan Charlton played a ball into the box to Billy Morrissey who's initial shot was blocked by Ford, but then Morrissey made no mistake with his second attempt to seal the cup victory.
in the Gaelic Cup Final Perth opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time when a Steve McGarvey corner was headed against the upright by Jackie Jordan who then volleyed home the re-bound.
In the second-half Burns headed home an equaliser for Wanderers after 58 minutes. Scores were still level after extra-time taking the tie to a penalty shoot-out. Tannadice, McDougall and Andrews all had penalties saved by Pressley the young Perth keeper while Nish, Burns and McBride all converted successfully. Hanson and Jordan scored for Perth before Byers, McLeod and Ancelotti all failed. With the shoot-out level on 3-3 after six penalties each, McLaren put the next Wanderers penalty wide to leave the Perth skipper Ian Orr to convert the deciding kick to give them a historic victory.
The League 1 Play-Off Final was a very tense affair with Sheffield Wanderers dominating the early stages with Scott MacKenzie opening the scoring when he was put through for a one-on-one with the keeper after 3 minutes. Wolverhampton Town slowly began to recover and after 19 minutes Wanderers failed to clear a corner and Wyn Jones rifled home. With Town more settled in the second-half, man-of-the-match Mark Mountford put Greg Salmon through on 79 minutes and the midfielder hit the top corner from just inside the box.
